Why Aryan Khan's 'Controversial' Series Was a Runaway Hit: PJ Explained Breaks It Down

It was the show that 'should have flopped,' but Aryan Khan's 'The Bards of Bollywood' is a certified hit. YouTuber PJ Explained is here to tell you why.

It was the show that, by all accounts, "should have flopped." A flawed, edgy, and deeply controversial take on the Bollywood machine, Aryan Khan's "The Bards of Bollywood" was a risky bet. But against all odds, it has become a runaway hit, and now, YouTube's resident film guru, PJ Explained, is breaking down the "flawed genius" behind the show's success.

In a new video titled "Ye Flop Hona Chahiye Tha" (This Should Have Flopped), PJ Explained dives deep into the cultural phenomenon that is "The Bards of Bollywood," and what he uncovers is a fascinating look at the changing tastes of the Indian audience.

"This isn't a conventional story for India," PJ says, his voice filled with a sense of wonder. "Stories like this shouldn't have worked at all. So why did it work?"

The answer, according to PJ, is simple: the new Indian audience is hungry for something different. "Our new generation likes to watch content that is a bit dark, edgy, and a little unsettling," he explains. "They want something bold, something meta, for which we unfortunately have to consume foreign content."

And "The Bards of Bollywood" delivers on all fronts. The show is a satirical and self-aware look at the dark side of the film industry, and it's not afraid to get its hands dirty. It tackles everything from nepotism and casting couches to drug abuse and media manipulation, and it does so with a wit and a style that is both shocking and refreshing.

"They showcased messages from their own lives in such a self-aware and satirical way that it's very enjoyable," PJ says. "You think, 'Damn, they used that!'"

But the show's success is not just about its edgy content. It's also about the man behind it: Aryan Khan. The son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, Aryan has been in the public eye his entire life. And in a strange twist of fate, his own personal controversies may have actually helped the show's success.

"It wouldn't be wrong to say that Aryan Khan also benefited from the controversy of him going to jail," PJ says. "It legit benefited the guy. He became even more famous after going to jail."

But Aryan is not just a product of his father's fame. He's a talented and visionary director in his own right, and he has a deep understanding of what the new Indian audience wants to see.

"He understands that rockstar symbolism," PJ says. "He understands that as long as a star remains a star on that rock, looking unachievable, whom you can only admire from below, only then do people respect him. And that's what makes him special."

"The Bards of Bollywood" is a game-changer for the Indian film industry. It's a show that is not afraid to take risks, to push boundaries, and to challenge the status quo. And it's a show that has proven that the new Indian audience is ready for something more.
