Rashmika Mandanna's "Fake Sweetness" Exposed: Overacting, Kannada Industry Backlash, And A Controversial Breakup

Rashmika Mandanna's public image is under scrutiny. Critics are calling out her "overacting" and "fake sweetness," linking it to her controversial past with the Kannada film industry and a high-profile breakup.

Rashmika Mandanna, the "National Crush" who has taken the Indian film industry by storm, is currently facing a massive backlash for what critics are calling her "overacting" and "fake sweetness." The controversy" which has been brewing for some time, has now exploded into a full-blown debate about her public persona, her controversial behavior towards the Kannada film industry, and her past relationship with actor-director Rakshit Shetty.

The latest wave of criticism was sparked by a viral reel of Rashmika celebrating her 29th birthday. In the clip, she is seen acting "goofy" and "over-excited," a behavior that many found "unnatural" and "cringe-worthy."

"Trying to act cool but you are not," one user commented. "She thinks she is cute even after doing overacting and overdrama," another added.

The comments are a reflection of a growing sentiment among a section of the audience that Rashmika's public image is not genuine. Many believe that she is "trying too hard" to act cute and bubbly, and that her behavior is "forced" and "unnatural."

The Spill Bee, a popular YouTuber known for his sharp commentary on Bollywood, has delved deep into the controversy, dissecting Rashmika's public image and linking it to her past behavior.

He argues that Rashmika's "overacting" and "fake sweetness" are a recent phenomenon, a shift in her personality that has been observed since she entered Bollywood. He suggests that she might be trying to emulate Korean celebrities, who often use "cute" gestures and poses, but that her attempts come across as "odd" and "forced."

"It's possible that Rashmika is a fan of K-dramas," he says. "But another reason behind all this could also be that the fans of such K-dramas are very loyal and are in vast numbers. So, this might be done to tap into or impress that audience base."

But the criticism goes deeper than just her acting. Many in the Kannada film industry are upset with Rashmika for what they perceive as her "ungrateful" behavior towards the production house that launched her career.

Rashmika, who is from Karnataka, got her first film, "Kirik Party," through Rakshit Shetty's production house. The film, directed by Rishab Shetty, was a massive hit, and it launched Rashmika's career in the film industry.

However, when she became famous and started giving interviews in Bollywood, she reportedly avoided taking the name of the production house that gave her a break. Instead, she used "air quotes" when referring to them, a gesture that many found disrespectful.

"It felt as if she was not giving due credit to the production house that gave her a chance," The Spill Bee says. He draws a parallel with Deepika Padukone, who always shows gratitude to Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan for launching her career.

The controversy is further complicated by Rashmika's past relationship with Rakshit Shetty. The two dated during the filming of "Kirik Party" and even got engaged in 2017. However, the engagement was called off in 2018, reportedly at Rashmika's insistence.

The Spill Bee argues that while it's not fair to hate Rashmika for ending a relationship, her subsequent behavior towards Rakshit and the production house has been disrespectful. He points to a tweet from Rakshit Shetty, where he wished Rashmika on her birthday and shared a "beautiful memory" from her "Kirik Party" audition. Rashmika reciprocated with a cordial reply.

However, a year later, in an interview with Curlytales, Rashmika reportedly avoided taking Rakshit Shetty's name, or the production house's name, portraying it as if she didn't even want to acknowledge their contribution to her career.

"Clearly, they seem cordial on the internet," The Spill Bee says. "Whereas a year later, when Rashmika was giving an interview, she was portraying it as if she didn't even want to take the production house's name. Here, Rashmika was being salty. If a person has launched you, given you the first film of your career, then okay, don't take his name directly, but show that respect to the production house. You are being sweet on the internet, but in interviews, you are showing that you don't even want to take the name. Then it is understood that perhaps you are not actually as sweet as you project."

The controversy has left many in the Kannada industry feeling betrayed and disrespected. They believe that Rashmika has forgotten her roots and that she is not showing gratitude to the people who helped her achieve stardom.

The Spill Bee concludes by suggesting that Rashmika's "overly sweet" and "bubbly" persona might be a way for her to overcompensate for her past behavior and to avoid being perceived as rude. But he questions the authenticity of this personality, arguing that it was never seen in her past.
