Doug DeMuro Declares the 2025 Lucid Gravity a “Minivan in Disguise” in Explosive Review
Doug DeMuro is back with another controversial take, this time on the 2025 Lucid Gravity. Despite its luxury SUV label, DeMuro argues it's a minivan in disguise, packed with bizarre quirks and impressive tech.
Doug DeMuro, the internet's most opinionated car reviewer, has just dropped a bombshell on the automotive world, declaring the highly anticipated 2025 Lucid Gravity an "electric luxury performance SUV" that is, in fact, a minivan. In a review that is sure to spark heated debate, DeMuro meticulously dissects the Gravity's design, features, and driving dynamics, ultimately concluding that despite Lucid's marketing, it screams "minivan" from every angle.
"This is the new 2026 Lucid Gravity, and it's an electric luxury performance SUV, or so they say," DeMuro begins, a mischievous glint in his eye. "To me, it looks like a minivan with similar styling and dimensions." This controversial opening sets the stage for a deep dive into a vehicle that promises to redefine electric luxury, but which DeMuro argues is simply a glorified family hauler.
The Lucid Gravity boasts impressive specs: a starting price around $97,000 for the Grand Touring model with 830 horsepower, and a Dream Edition pushing over $140,000 with nearly 1,000 horsepower. It offers an astonishing range of up to 450 miles, making it one of the longest-range electric vehicles on the market. Lucid positions it as a rival to other electric luxury SUVs like the Rivian R1S and Cadillac Escalade IQ.
However, DeMuro is not convinced. He points to the Gravity's "teardrop look," long front windshield, and overall profile as distinctly minivan-esque. "Plus, the long front windshield reminds us of minivans of yore, the Toyota Previa and old school models like that, but even modern minivans like the Chrysler Pacifica," he explains. He even highlights its height: at 65 inches, it's shorter than a Honda Odyssey. "This kind of screams minivan to me," he asserts.
But beyond the minivan debate, DeMuro uncovers a plethora of "quirks and features" that make the Gravity a fascinating vehicle. The exterior boasts a full-width front running light with "Lucid" spelled out and individually lit, and auxiliary brake lights and turn signals in the cargo area for federal compliance when the tailgate is open.
Inside, the luxury is undeniable, with high-quality materials and unique California-themed interior options like "Tahoe," "Yosemite," and "Mojave." The cockpit is dominated by a massive upper screen and a lower central touchscreen, designed to operate independently, allowing the driver to navigate while the passenger controls climate or music. The steering wheel is unusually shaped and positioned low to provide visibility over the large screen.
One of the most intriguing features is the "Lucid Sanctuary mode," which transforms the cabin into a meditative retreat with themed lighting, climate control, and even seat massages. The range display is also highly detailed, showing exactly how far you can drive on a map based on current road and traffic conditions.
Despite its minivan-like appearance, the Gravity's driving dynamics are surprisingly sporty, thanks to its low center of gravity (due to the battery packs) and air suspension that can raise it from 5.3 inches to 9.3 inches of ground clearance. DeMuro praises its minimal body roll and agile handling, a direct benefit of its "minivanness."
However, the "bus-like" steering wheel position and the lack of a household power outlet are minor drawbacks. Yet, the overall luxury experience, quiet interior, and impressive balance of ride quality and sporty handling make it a compelling package.
Doug DeMuro's review of the Lucid Gravity is a masterclass in automotive analysis, challenging perceptions and highlighting the innovative spirit of electric vehicles. Whether you agree with his minivan assessment or not, one thing is clear: the Lucid Gravity is a vehicle that demands attention. What do you think?
